Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of BoardTab, a Chrome extension that transforms your new tab page into a visual Kanban board for tab management. We've written them to be clear and fair.
Acceptance of terms
By installing and using BoardTab from the Chrome Web Store, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't install or use the extension.
We may update these terms occasionally to reflect new features or legal requirements. When we do, we'll notify users through extension updates or our website. Continued use after updates means you accept the new terms.
What BoardTab does
The service
BoardTab is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a visual Kanban board for organizing browser tabs. It provides drag-and-drop tab management, column organization, search functionality, time-based views, task management, and usage analytics. The extension operates entirely within your browser with all data stored locally.
Freemium model
BoardTab operates on a freemium model with both free and Pro tiers. Core tab organization features are free, including visual board layout, time view, basic search, and up to 5 columns. Pro features ($2/month) include advanced analytics, unlimited columns, saved board states, task management, and enhanced functionality.
No account required
BoardTab works without creating an account for free features. Pro subscribers provide an email address for payment processing and license verification. All tab organization data stays on your device using Chrome's local storage.
Pro subscription terms
Pricing and billing
Pro subscriptions cost $2.00 USD per month, billed monthly through Stripe's secure payment processing. Payment is charged automatically each month unless you cancel. Annual plans may be introduced in the future with discount pricing.
Pro features
Pro subscribers get immediate access to advanced analytics, unlimited columns, saved board states, task management features, tab notes, and enhanced search. Features are activated through secure JWT license verification after payment confirmation.
Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel your Pro subscription anytime through Stripe's customer portal. Cancellation takes effect immediately, disabling Pro features while preserving your local data. Refunds follow Stripe's standard policies - contact support for refund requests or billing disputes.
License verification
Pro features require periodic online license verification through our secure Cloudflare Workers service. If you're offline, Pro features have a 7-day grace period. License tokens are stored locally and expire after 365 days, requiring subscription renewal.
Your responsibilities
Appropriate use
Use BoardTab for its intended purpose: personal productivity and tab organization. Don't attempt to reverse engineer, modify, redistribute, or use the extension for malicious purposes. The extension is designed for individual use, not commercial distribution.
Account and subscription responsibility
You're responsible for maintaining accurate payment information for Pro subscriptions and ensuring your Chrome browser meets system requirements. Pro subscriptions are per-user and shouldn't be shared across multiple accounts or devices.
Your data
You're responsible for your tab organization data, board layouts, and any content you create within BoardTab. Since data is stored locally, we recommend regular browser data backups and enabling Chrome Sync for data protection.
Compliance
Follow Chrome's terms of service and applicable laws when using BoardTab. The extension should be used in compliance with your organization's IT policies and any workplace restrictions on browser extensions.
Service limitations & disclaimers
Service availability
BoardTab is provided "as is" without warranties. While we strive for reliability, we can't guarantee the extension will work perfectly in all situations, with all browser versions, or with all other extensions installed.
Feature limitations
Free users are limited to 5 columns, basic analytics, and core features. Pro features require active subscription and periodic online verification. Performance may degrade with 100+ open tabs - the extension works best with moderate tab counts.
Browser compatibility
BoardTab is designed for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers with Manifest V3 support. Firefox support is limited (version 109+, no side panel). We can't guarantee compatibility with beta releases, heavily modified browsers, or unsupported platforms.
No liability
We're not liable for any data loss, browser performance issues, conflicts with other extensions, subscription billing issues, or other problems that might arise from using BoardTab. Use the extension at your own risk and ensure you have backups of important data.
Third-party content and services
BoardTab organizes your tabs but doesn't control, modify, or endorse the websites you visit. We're not responsible for third-party content accessed through organized tabs. Payment processing is handled by Stripe under their terms of service.
Intellectual property
Our rights
BoardTab's code, design, branding, user interface, and visual elements are our intellectual property. You can use the extension for personal productivity but can't copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute, or create derivative works without permission.
Your data rights
You retain all rights to your workspace data, column layouts, tab organization, task content, and any notes or annotations you create. BoardTab doesn't claim ownership of your information, browsing patterns, or workspace configurations. Your data remains yours and stays on your device.
Open source components
BoardTab uses open source libraries (React, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI) under their respective licenses. These components don't grant additional rights to BoardTab's proprietary code or features.
Privacy and data handling
Local data storage
BoardTab stores all tab organization data locally in your browser. We don't access, collect, or transmit your browsing data, tab content, or personal information except as required for Pro subscription management.
Pro subscription data
Pro subscribers' email addresses are shared with Stripe for payment processing and stored in our Cloudflare Workers service for license verification. No other personal data is collected or transmitted.
Data retention
Tab statistics are automatically deleted after 90 days. Other local data persists until you uninstall the extension or clear browser data. Pro license information expires after 365 days and is removed from our servers when subscriptions end.
Termination
Ending your use
You can stop using BoardTab anytime by uninstalling the extension from chrome://extensions/ or removing it from your browser. This removes all local workspace data and ends your use of the service. Pro subscriptions can be canceled separately through Stripe's customer portal.
Service discontinuation
If we ever discontinue BoardTab, we'll provide reasonable notice through the Chrome Web Store, extension updates, or our website. Your local workspace data will remain on your device, but the extension will no longer receive updates. Pro subscribers will receive pro-rated refunds.
Violation of terms
We reserve the right to terminate Pro subscriptions for violations of these terms, including misuse of the service, account sharing, or fraudulent activity. Serious violations may result in permanent access restriction.
Changes and updates
Feature updates
We may add new features, modify existing functionality, or discontinue features as BoardTab evolves. Major changes affecting Pro subscribers will be communicated in advance. Free tier limitations may be adjusted based on usage patterns and costs.
Pricing changes
We may adjust Pro subscription pricing with 30 days notice to existing subscribers. Current subscribers can continue at their existing rate until they cancel and resubscribe. New subscriptions will use updated pricing.
